Ashokan Farewell, by Jay Ungar

As part of our last concert, Culver City Flute Choir performed "Ashokan Farewell," by Jay Ungar. It's pretty.

Enjoy!

  1. beautiful! i don't think i had ever heard a flute choir.

are the big curvy, plumbing-looking ones bass flutes? is there such a thing?

    thanks for the post!

  2. The giant one is a contra-bass flute. It's two octaves lower than a regular flute. Believe it or not, there's even a bigger one, called a double contra. Huge, low, gorgeous sound!

We were not quite perfectly in tune (and I took a ill-advised, obvious breath) but I really like this piece. Thanks!
